What Is In A Name?

I have always wondered who created the pro-wrestling hold names specially the metaphoric ones like Boston Crab, Clover Leaf, Full Nelson, Guillotine and many more. We have gotten used to them and never think over why (at least myself) trapping and bending the legs of the other woman is called a Crab and from Massachusetts! (What would be an Alaskan King Crab hold?).

If you find these common names really imaginative just look at the ones below: Caballete, Lebell, Muta, Rodeo and others, were chosen to designate locks and holds by some marketing expert.

  1. Yes, some overactive wanna-be marketers :)

The Lebell is likely a tribute to Gene Lebell, a well-known judoka and all-around male fighter.
